The Company of Four Year Olds

Her eyes were like shining stars
Her fingertips electrically charged
When I met her down in the park
Where she was hanging with her mom
She said, “I’m in the future, playing with dinosaurs
Some run fast, some can soar
We’re gonna get some cheezies at the grocery store
You wanna come?”

Where did it go
I suppose my imagination might know
But it left me a long ago
For the company of four year olds

I’ve heard that “Angels live where the world stops”
“The leaves play with the sidewalks”
“Bumblebees wear yellow socks”
“Windows let the outside in”
“ Sometimes dreams are just like dreams”
“There’s strawberry houses you can eat”
“The street’s as wide as a moon beam”
“Flowers cry in the rain”

Where did it go
I suppose my imagination might know
But it left me a long ago
For the company of four year olds

There’s a lot a problems everywhere
The world a state of disrepair
How it’ll get fixed is up in the air
But it probably won’t be some master plan
Made up by those of a certain age
So sure of what to do and what to say
I really think a much better way
Is just talk to some four year olds
