The Confetti Tree

Charlotte woke into another day
The sun was fighting with the window shade
Bright eyes and smiling face
Six years old and not a trace of disappointment in the human race

Mom was calling, breakfast waiting
In front of the bathroom mirror little sister investigating
How her tongue worked inside her mouth
She was crazy, Charlotte had no doubt

Chorus:
Jiggity, jaggety, don’t the clouds look raggedy
Oakily, doakily, there’s plenty here for you and me
Just you wait and see
Sometimes kindness falls like confetti
From a confetti tree

Charlotte got out the door, just caught her bus
Mom yelled something about it being no good to rush
Her closest friends, Charley, Faith and Gus
Were already on board, they had a lot to discuss…like they did everyday

It was the reading circle, they were reading Charlotte’s Web
The magic of talking animals and understanding what they said
Charlotte wondered where her name came from
And about the word chrysanthemum

In that small silence just before the teacher started
Someone laughed and said “Your shirt’s on backwards Charlotte”
Well, little laughs travel at the speed of light
Sure sometimes they’re beautiful, other times not right

Chorus

Charlotte’s cheeks burned red
She’d been in a rush out the door, “Don’t rush”, mom always said
Till then she’d never wanted a day to end
But her cheeks burned with every kind of shade of red

Well it was Gus who was the first, which was no surprise
Gus always said he could tell when someone was about to cry
He stood and pulled his arms out of his shirt and spun it around
So it was on backwards too, and then he sat back down

Soon, everyone else did too
Everyone
Everyone
Everyone

Chorus
